U Spy: New Porsche 991 Turbos Drop By Santa Barbara

CarScoop reader Ben F. has supplied us with a spy picture he shot earlier this summer of a 2013 Porsche 911 Turbo prototype parked at a gas station somewhere in Santa Barbara.

We will let Ben explain the 'hows and whens' of the encounter:

"I spotted the 991 Turbo in Santa Barbara this July. There were three of them: two coupes and one cab. All three were black. They were probably headed to the Mojave for some heat stress-testing. I attached a picture for you. The air inlets on the sides have plastic panels on them that look like those from the 996... I don't think they're part of the car, but the air intakes themselves are DEFINITELY real."

The wait for one of the crown jewels of the new Porsche 911 series is almost over as it shouldn't be too long before the automaker removes the last remaining pieces of camouflage from the Turbo model in both Coupe and Convertible forms.

CarScoop reader and avid Porsche-hunter Toldi was able to capture a thinly disguised prototype of the new 991 Turbo Coupe on the streets of Porsche's hometown of Stuttgart in Germany with his camera.

It’s Official: Porsche Releases New 911 Carrera 4 and 4S Details, Photos and Video

rsstou | 06:37 | 0 comments

Over the weekend, we brought you the first official images of the all-wheel drive versions of Porsche’s new 911 series, code-named 991.

The new model will be available in both coupe and cabriolet flavors in 345HP (350PS) Carrera 4 and 394HP (400PS) Carrera 4S guises, which brings the total number of all-wheel drive 911 variants to four.

Although the Carrera 4 looks identical to its two-wheel drive sibling, its rear wheel arches are wider by 22 mm (0.87 inches) on each side and just in case you miss that, there’s also a red strip between the taillights to tell the two models apart.

Despite being bigger than its predecessor, the new Carrera 4 is up to 65 kg (143 pounds) lighter than the all-wheel drive 997. Likewise, the hike in performance is accompanied by a drop in fuel consumption that has improved by as much as 16 percent.

First Official Photos of All-Wheel Drive 2013 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 and 4S Coupe and Convertibles

rsstou | 07:31 | 0 comments

The Porsche 991 family has just got bigger as the first images of the four-wheel drive Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S models in both coupe and convertible body styles have hit the web ahead of their world premiere at the 2012 edition of the Paris Motor Show on September 27.

As with the previous generations of the Carrera 4/4S series, the main way to tell apart the rear-wheel drive (RWD) 911s from their all-wheel drive (AWD) siblings is the moniker on the rear and the reflective strip that connects the tail lamps.

Just like the RWD variants, the Carrera 4 has two oval tailpipes while the more powerful Carrera 4S sports quad exhausts tips.

We don’t have any official information on the specifications yet, but aside from Porsche's all-wheel drive system, the Carrera 4 and 4S models will feature a modified suspension that will add some weight to the car.
