U Spy: New Porsche 991 Turbos Drop By Santa Barbara

rsstou | 13:38 | 0 comments

CarScoop reader Ben F. has supplied us with a spy picture he shot earlier this summer of a 2013 Porsche 911 Turbo prototype parked at a gas station somewhere in Santa Barbara.

We will let Ben explain the 'hows and whens' of the encounter:

"I spotted the 991 Turbo in Santa Barbara this July. There were three of them: two coupes and one cab. All three were black. They were probably headed to the Mojave for some heat stress-testing. I attached a picture for you. The air inlets on the sides have plastic panels on them that look like those from the 996... I don't think they're part of the car, but the air intakes themselves are DEFINITELY real."

The wait for one of the crown jewels of the new Porsche 911 series is almost over as it shouldn't be too long before the automaker removes the last remaining pieces of camouflage from the Turbo model in both Coupe and Convertible forms.

CarScoop reader and avid Porsche-hunter Toldi was able to capture a thinly disguised prototype of the new 991 Turbo Coupe on the streets of Porsche's hometown of Stuttgart in Germany with his camera.

Yes, Someone Tried to Turn a Porsche Boxster in Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 Roadster

rsstou | 09:20 | 0 comments

The only sane reason we can think of why someone would take a Porsche Boxster and attempt a crude recreation of a Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 Roadster is that the owner had a heavily damaged example of the Stuttgart-based carmaker's mid-engine model lying around and decided to get mechanically and cosmetically creative – or so to speak.

Regardless the reason that gave birth to the idea, the project remains unfinished despite changing several hands (we wonder why….). The person selling the car on eBay states that he was offered the Murcielago-stein as part of a trade deal.

Porsche Confirms 918 Spyder's 7:14 Nürburgring Time, Says it was a One-Lap Attempt

rsstou | 12:09 | 0 comments

Only a day after the official brochure of the 918 Spyder leaked on the web, Porsche confirmed reports that its hybrid supercar posted a 7:14 lap time at the 20.6 km (12.8-mile) Nürburgring track on September 18.

Porsche said that the prototype was packing 795HP, which is the first time the automaker is being specific about the 918 Spyder's "770HP-plus" output.

Leaked Porsche 918 Spyder Brochure Tells us that a Blue Shade will Cost Buyers a Mere...$65,000

While most manufacturers do their best to hide their latest models from prying eyes before their official launch, Porsche has been quite forthcoming about its new supercar, the 918 Spyder.

In fact, it has already released a barrage of information, including the specifications of its 770+ HP hybrid powertrain and (provisional) performance figures: 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) comes in 3.2 seconds and top speed exceeds 320 km/h (199 mph).

Today, Porsche announced on its Facebook page that the 918 Spyder has lapped the Nordschleife in 7:14’. That's better than most supercars, including its Carrera GT predecessor and the Lexus LFA Nürburgring edition, but behind the "old" Dodge Viper ACR (7:12.13) as far as production models are concerned.

Porsche CEO Says Carmaker will Reduce Initial Production and Investment Targets for 2013

rsstou | 12:23 | 0 comments

Its global sales may be better than ever, having increased by 15 percent in the first half of 2012, yet Porsche is already trimming its initial production and investment projection for next year in anticipation of slowing demand.

On the sidelines of the ceremony for the beginning of the Boxster production at VW’s Osnabruck plant, Porsche CEO Matthias Mueller said that 2013 sales could very well be 5-10 percent below initial expectations, despite the introduction of the Macan compact SUV, which the company expects to be a best-seller, and the second generation of the Cayman sports coupe.
